Ancient Saint-Etienne church

Built in 1547, the former Saint-Étienne Church in Attert is a remarkable building in the local heritage. It stands out for its ‘Halle-Kirche’ (hall church) architecture, rare in Wallonia, consisting of three low naves with ribbed vaults separated by cylindrical columns with octagonal bases.

Under its slate roof, the church has a massive, blind tower topped by a spire resting on an octagonal bulbous bulge. Its large arched doorway is closed by a studded oak door.

Decommissioned for worship in 1912 when a new church was built, it was listed as a monument in 1938. Restored in recent years, the building was re-inaugurated in October 2025.
